Alex Verus has good reasons to keep his distance from other mages. But when the Council seeks out his particular talents to unearth a powerful magical artifact, Alex finds himself the centre of some Very Pointed attention. Caught between Light and Dark mages, trusting neither, Alex will need all of his considerable prognicating skills to stay ahead of the game… not to mention alive.
Alex may not have Dresden’s hero complex, or Peter Grant’s humour, but he’s an interesting character with enough complications in his past to make me look forward to learning more about him. A strong debut novel.
