This coming Saturday, March 9th, we’re absolutely thrilled to be hosting a launch for Julie E. Czerneda’s new novel A Turn Of Light.  It’s the first major work of fantasy from this noted SF author, and we’re so looking forward to seeing it take flight.

Please join us here at the store at 3pm on Saturday March 9th.  Julie will be here, of course, spreading cheer everywhere, along with books and toad cookies.  And you KNOW you can’t miss that.

Cory Doctorow!

The inimitable Cory Doctorow is coming to town!

He’ll join us in the basement of the Lillian H. Smith Library (239 College, at Huron) this Friday March 1st (it’s a big space — let’s try to fill it!).  He’s finishing up his tour for Homeland, the sequel to his spectacular novel Little Brother. But since he’s Cory, we’ll probably also hear about e-rights, fabulous new tech, parenting, legislation, travel and… pretty much anything anyone cares to ask about.   Engaged, entertaining, and energetic: that’s Cory Doctorow.

Doors open at 6pm: the event will start at 7pm.  We’d love to see you there.

End: March 1, 2013 10:00 pm

OMG BRANDON SANDERSON!

Yes, it’s true.  Brandon Sanderson is coming to town.  Cue the squeee!!

On Friday February 15th, Brandon will be in Toronto to celebrate the launch of  A Memory Of Light.  Since the event promises to be huge, and we didn’t want anyone huddling outside in the cold, we’re hosting it offsite in the basement of the Lillian H. Smith library at 239 College (at Huron, just east of Spadina).  The event begins at 7pm.  Doors will open at 6pm, and it’ll be first come, first seated.

A few points of information:

– This is a free event, no tickets or registration required.

– You aren’t required to buy the book from us in order to attend, though of course we’d love it if you did.  We’ll definitely have copies of A Memory Of Light available for sale that night, along with Brandon’s other titles.

– Given the size of the event, we’re going to set a limit of 3 books signed per trip through the line (and remember: Brandon’s books. Not Robert Jordan’s). Then you can rejoin the line, and get more books signed if time permits.

-Books signed?  Definitely.  Memorabilia?  Bring it on.  Body parts?  Er, no thank you.  And yes, you can take photographs.

– It’s going to be AWESOME!

THE RED KNIGHT

This coming Saturday, January 19th, Bakka Phoenix will launch The Red Knight, the stunning new historical fantasy adventure by Miles Cameron.  We’ve got Miles’ armour in the window — along with the book he shot with an arrow when asked to prove he could actually wear and use said armour properly.  In other words:  wow, do we feel like underachievers.

Join us here at the store this Saturday at 3pm.  There will be books, and funny anecdotes, and lots of talk about armour and weapons.  And cake!  The party starts at 3pm, and we’d love to have you.
