Too Far Gone

On Wednesday November 4th, Bakka Phoenix will celebrate the launch of Chadwick Ginther‘s Too Far Gone, the final book in his ‘Thunder Road’ trilogy.

…In which Ted Callan has three days to unearth the Bright Sword, defeat the fire giant, and save the world. And, um, attend a wedding. But hey, no pressure.

Diversity in SF/F: A Panel Discussion

Join The Friends of the Merril on Saturday, October 24th from 2:00 to 4:00 for a roundtable discussion, Seeing Our Diversity in Science Fiction and Fantasy. The event is sponsored by the Toronto Public Library.

The discussion will be moderated by academic & artist Derek Newman-Stille. The panelists will be Dr. Kathryn Allan, Editor of Disability in Science Fiction and Co-Editor of Accessing the Future;  Kelly Robson, Author of “Two-Year Man”, “Waters of Versailles”, and “The Three Resurrections of Jessica Churchill”; and Léonicka, creator of DiverseCanLit.ca.

The event will be held in the reading room of the Merril Collection, 3rd floor of the Lillian H. Smith Library at 239 College Street. The library is wheelchair accessible and can be approached, entered, and used by persons with physical and/or sensory disabilities.

The event is free and all are welcome!

Tanya Huff Is Coming To Town!

On Saturday! Yes, this Saturday, October 10th, Tanya Huff will be here at the store to launch An Ancient Peace, the first book in her new ‘Peacekeeper’ series.

Join us at 3pm for a chance to talk to Tanya (which is never a chance to be missed), to pick up a copy of her new book, and generally fill up on enjoyment so as to make it through the Thanksgiving weekend with the extended family.

We are truly pleased to announce that on the evening of Tuesday June 23rd, Bakka Phoenix will help Morgan Rhodes launch her new novel, A Book Of Spirits And Thieves.

Authors For Indies Day

Saturday May 2nd is Authors For Indies Day. All across Canada, more than 600 authors across Canada will spend time in their local independent bookstores, making recommendations, helping customers, and generally being amazing.

Bakka Phoenix has a long tradition of authors-as-staff. But this Saturday, in addition to Leah Bobet and Michelle West*, customers will also have a chance to chat with Nicolas Billon, Christian Cameron, and Liisa Ladouceur.

It’s going to be a great day. Wherever you are, I hope you stop by your local independent bookstore to take part in the fun.
